Ancestor Arms "Longship" - Precision Rifle System and Chassis

The Ancestor Arms Precision Rifle system is fictional weapon born from a personal project that began as an exercise in designing a monolithic aluminum chassis for a bolt-action rifle chambered in 6.5 creedmoor.

After developing weapons for games with an emphasis on sci-fi/fantasy aesthetics, I wanted to step back and formulate something that could not only exist, but be manufactured and potentially work with real firearms. I chose Plasticity as my modeling program because of its super quick flow and forgiving CAD engine. As a result, the rifle is clean and presents well, but the geometry is too scrambled to be easily implemented for games. Everything seen above was imported from Plasticity into Marmoset Toolbag 5 and rendered using triplanar textures. I'd've liked to use more detailed textures through the UV process, but that'll be for next time.

The chassis was inspired by products from real-life companies like MDT and KRG. I love the blend of military functionality and consumer aesthetics, which is where this model of the Longship is meant to land: gun-bros with expendable income looking to indulge in a rifle platform that caters to both form and function. The blue cerakoted finish and kisses of anodized red keeps things playful. Alongside the invented rifle chassis and optic are real-world accessories: the QRF-1200 laser rangefinder sits atop an original diving board mount and mounted on the integrated ARCA rail is an MDT GRND-POD bipod. The magazine is another original design and continues the theme of geometric faceting found throughout the project (I love tech that looks hewn from stone).

This project marks my first major entry into the world of 3D hard-surface design. I absolutely adored the process, and I'm very pleased with how his rifle turned out. Here's to the next one.
